Raised in Barbados, Prime Minister Thompson pursued a career in law, and entered politics shortly after. He won a by-election for the Democratic Labor Party in 1987 and in the early 1990's he became head of the DLP.

Prime Minister Thompson was elected to his last post in January 2008, leading the DLP back to government and ending the Barbados Labor Party's 13-year rule.

He leaves an entire nation to mourn, along with his wife Mara, and three daughters, Mischa, Oya and Osa-Marie. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Knight, and father, Charles Thompson.

The staff of GuyanaGraphic.com extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and the people of Barbados on the passing of The Right Honorable David Thompson.
