Lead singer of Toots and the Maytals injured at concert

Frederick “Toots” Hibbert lead singer of Toots and the Maytals, was injured in the head when a bottle was thrown by an audience member at a concert in Richmond, VA on Saturday.

Hibbert was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and treated for a forehead laceration then released.

A video of the incident shows Hibbert, being struck on the head, dropping his mike and staggering off the stage. The concert was immediately stopped and people were directed to leave.

Toots and the Maytals is a Jamaican musical group best known for its ska and rock steady style, they have been recording and touring since the early 60s.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that a 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and public intoxication.
